| Gressoney
lies at the centre of Italy's three valleys, the Monterosa area is named
after Europe's second highest mountain. Over the whole Monte Rosa ski
area there are over 150kms of prepared pistes over the three valleys.
Gressoney is one of the most attractive villages in the Aosta Valley with
a view that stretches from the Matterhorn, to Mont Blanc, Monta Rosa and
the Grand Paradiso.

There
is plenty of good intermediate terrain and Alagna will satisfy the appetite
of the more demanding advanced skiers, while there is heliskiing available
locally also. Alpine guides here will quickly admit that the skiing here
is as good as that of Argentiere with plenty of testing off piste areas.
The best black run is the piste from the top of Punta Indren down to Rochetta
where it becomes a red for the descent to Alagna. Sarezza in Champoluc
offers a steeper red which is a naturally formed mogul field. The off
piste everywhere is FABULOUS and usually deserted. There is also a natural
ice rink, tobogganing, superb cross country tracks and snow shoe walking
for those who fancy something different. |
The
nearest airports are Torino (Turin, 98 km - 1hr) and Milano (Milan, 164
km - 2hrs); follow the autostrada A5 towards Aosta, exiting at Pont Saint
Martin, follow signs to Gressoney. |
